The Harnett County Sheriff's Office is comprised of the following units: Criminal Investigations, Investigations, Crime Scene Investigations, Narcotics, Patrol Division,
Wanted Persons, Crime Prevention, E911 Communications, Special Response Team, K-9 Unit, and County Jail. Currently, the Harnett County Sheriff's Office is formed by more than 100 sworn Law Enforcement Officers. Patrol Squads include a Sergeant, Corporal, 4 Deputies, and 1 K-9 Unit. The response of incoming 911 calls is their primary responsibility. Frequent assistance is provided by members of the Civil / Criminal Process Squad. The county is divided into 6 Patrol Zones.

Harnett County Sheriff's Office Patrol Squads include a Sergeant, Corporal, 4 Deputies, and 1 K-9 Unit. The primary responsibility for these squads is to respond to incoming 911 calls. They are frequently assisted by members of the Civil / Criminal Process Squad. Responsibilities performed by the Patrol Division are assigned to most of the Deputies.
These duties include: Road Patrol, K-9 Units, Civil and Criminal Process, School Resources, Crime Prevention and D.A.R.E., Courthouse Security, and Prisoner Transportation.

The Investigations Unit is divided into sub- divisions. These divisions include Criminal Investigations, Crime Scene Investigations, Fingerprint Analyst, Evidence Control, and Narcotics Investigations. Investigations involving the use, possession, sale, manufacture, and transportation of controlled substances are responsibility of the Narcotics Division. The Harnett County Detention Center is comprised of twenty full time detention officers and seven part time detention officers. The center includes a one story structure built of concrete and steel, four cell blocks with 84 beds, two blocks consisting of 20 beds, four man cells and the other two blocks are single cells made up of eleven beds. The Harnett County Detention Center also includes six isolations cells and eight more cells to house the female population.
