The Harnett
County Animal Control staff is comprised of one Supervisor, a Lead Officer,
two Officers, and two Shelter Attendants. Their mission is to protect Harnett
County from rabies transmitted by unconfined, uncontrolled or unimmunized animals,
to regulate dogs and other animals that may be a nuisance, and to insure all
animals are treated in a humane manner. Adoption of an animal requires a rabies
vaccination at any licensed veterinary or animal hospital. If space allows,
the animal may be placed at hold until the proper arrangements are made. Harnett
County does not require that our adoptable animals be spayed or neutered. Lost
and found animals are often turned to Harnett County Animal Control and are
returned to their owners if the pet has rabies tags, tattoos or a microchip.
The Harnett County Animal Control also works in partnership with Haven Friends
For Life.
Moore Humane Society was incorporated
in 1966. Moore Humane Society is a private nonprofit welfare organization that
operates as a "no-kill" animal shelter. Their primary goal is to rescue
and find appropriate placement for homeless animals. In order to adopt an animal
a formal Contract of Adoption and the Application for Adoption must be completed.
An approved application is required prior to completing an adoption contract.
Pet who are five months or older are released after being vaccinated for rabies
and are neutered.
